and when i'm lost and can tell nothing of this earth you will give me hope.
this song. this man.
BON IVER - Beth/Rest - SNL from Alex Delap on Vimeo.
and just to be fair.
i had this saved on my dvr for the past year but lost it recently after changing my plan. nothing like justin vernon live. one of my most favorite life experiences.
{i promise to work on answering your questions soon.}
and my voice you will always hear. and my hand you will always have. for i will shelter you. and i will comfort you.

the sun, the rain, the moon, the light.
it has already been pointed out that I am a "lyrics nerd". this i cannot deny. so, while listening to the phenomenal angus and julia stone yesterday i had to start learning the lyrics to their amazing work. this one melted me.
If you wake to find you're all alone
Call me up on the telephone, and I'll say
"Come on 'round, kick up your feet"
I'll check to see if your heart still beats, you can stay
I heard her laugh but she sounded blue
I said "you know my heart's for you, it likes awake
Dreaming of its promised land
A gentle touch from your gentle hand" I would say.
So hush, little darling, don't you cry
Hush, little darling, gonna make you mine
I know our love did rust away
But through that window came a better day
So don't close the blinds
Cause you're my light, you're my emptiness
The pretty colors on that summer dress, babe
You're all the things that fall from the sky
The sun, the rain, the moon, the light, babe
So come on down to this earthly being
And I'll hold you close when you're in need, babe
So hush, little darling, don't you cry
Hush, little darling, gonna make you mine
Hush, little darling, don't you cry
Hush, little darling, gonna make you mine
beautiful.
{since i lifted these off the interwebs i can't guarantee they are correct}

our early history.
thank you, starbucks, for my new beverage obsession. thank you, whole foods, for providing what i need to make it at home.
matcha tea:
(borrowed from wikipedia)
Matcha is a fine ground, powdered, high quality green tea and not the same as tea powder or green tea powder. Matcha is made from shade-grown tea leaves also used to make gyokuro. The preparation of matcha starts several weeks before harvest, when the tea bushes are covered to prevent direct sunlight. This slows down growth, turns the leaves a darker shade of green and causes the production of amino acids that make the resulting tea sweeter. Only the finest tea buds are hand picked. After harvesting, if the leaves are rolled out before drying as usual, the result will be gyokuro (jade dew) tea. However, if the leaves are laid out flat to dry, they will crumble somewhat and become known as tencha (碾茶). Tencha can then be de-veined, de-stemmed, and stone ground to the fine, bright green, talc-like powder known as matcha.
In 2003, researchers from the University of Colorado found that the concentration of the antioxidant EGCG available from drinking matcha is up to 137 times greater than the amount of EGCG available from other commercially available green teas. Matcha is also said to boost metabolism and help reduce cholesterol levels when drunk regularly. The aforementioned health benefits of matcha green tea can largely be attributed to the fact that the whole tea leaf is ingested, as opposed to just the steeped water in the case of 'bagged' green teas. This means that it delivers a much higher potency of catechin, chlorophyll, and antioxidants. Pound-for-pound, matcha contains more antioxidants than blueberries, gojiberries, pomegranates, orange juice, and spinach.
thank you, wikipedia, for your wealth of information.
i think this song is following me everywhere i go....
this one too...
"where did your joy go? it is missing in your smile."

here i am with open arms.
it's official, three of my prints were picked to be displayed and sold in a local store here in tulsa. a year ago i would have never believed i would be labeled "an artist" by an artist and paid for my photography. wild. i actually cried after my review {happy tears from all the praise}. what an amazing thing to find something you LOVE in this world that people are willing to pay you to do. truly amazing.
i don't know that i have ever really talked about my real job. i am a metabolic dietitian. i have to say it is getting hard to do everyday. we have lost two children in the past two months. both eight years old that i have cared for the last six years. nothing can prepare you for the death of a child, sick or not. most days i love it; it challenges me and is about the only setting where i can really make a difference in someone's life but other days it sucks. okay, moving on.
cake balls. the birthday boy requested cake balls. food network won't be calling me up for a decorating challenge anytime soon but i am okay with this. cake balls are so much fun to make! {tip: use a melon baller if you want uniform shape and size. i am good with my homemade look so i just rolled by hand.} they are a little too rich for me but i was in the minority, they were devoured in no time.
okay, i will answer two recent questions. i guess it is always interesting to know more about random strangers...
the vegetable garden. oh, the vegetable garden. it is one of my proudest accomplishments as of late. completely worth all of our hard work. it is BEAUTIFUL. so healthy. and flourishing. i will take photos soon to share.
what television shows i watch? well, i don't really watch any live tv with the exception of the weather channel {i know, i'm a freak and may be a meteorologist in my next life} and spongebob {i know, i'm an "adult"}. so, when i do watch television, i mostly only watch whatever is recorded on the dvr. here is a list of my shows currently recorded on the dvr.
deadliest catch. the planets. chuck. pride & prejudice. mythbusters. fairly oddparents. america, the story of us. other random history channel. watch what happens: live. the office. friends. random food network. real housewives of ny, oc and nj {i know...}. sci-fi science. random dinosaur and ancient egypt & greece. scrubs. the notebook.
i will answer more questions in the next couple of days.
"it's a f*cking tragedy is what it is."

we passed each other when the sky was pink.
Some exciting little news. A local store has asked to display and sell some of my prints. I think we will start with these two and see how it goes.
Ohhh, hours spent with this album, rat bones, a DEXA and microCT... I heard this on pandora and was instantly back in that place; back in 307.
"kiss my eyes when I sleep and carry me back home if my dreams will allow"
{Two of my favorite things: peonies and fall. The first one is printed on canvas in my living room and the second one is framed and hanging in my entry hall.}

you say that it's not fair that it's not raining where I am.
Relaxing home office half-day.
Lovely. Kind of a Rocky Votolato/Bon Iver mix.
1. I adore my friends{new and old}. I can't say this enough.
2. I adore you.
3. My post-run pear tonight was a loser.
4. My immune system is a loser.
5. I must do my taxes.
6. I must buy a external hard drive.
7. I am sun-kissed.
8. I am grateful.
"funny how you think your the only one caught in the storm"

you melt me just a little bit.
We have been snowed in for days and days and I barely touched my camera. :/ However, I did enjoy the fire, movies, curling up under the snoopy blanket, playing in the snow, pretending I didn't have a job, cooking, movies and more movies.
This melts me just a little bit-
"I loved you gray sweatpants, no make-up, so perfect."

those are moments that I can always relive. a weary memory I can always see.
Photography. Disney. The Decemberists.
We finally got snow. It didn't result in the world pausing but I have made peace with that.

nothing's wider than your eyes.
Okay, so the day after I posted last, this song played in the car. I haven't heard it in months but I am happy I can move on now that I have it in iTunes. I would have posted the official video but it is INSANE. WTFs all over the place.
"They swallow me whole as I look over at you."

birds pass by to tell me I'm not alone.
Tonight the house is filled with Christmas music, hot chocolate, candle light, and warmth. If shopping bags and freshly baked cookies were involved then I would feel like part of a Macy's commercial. If only it would snow.
As twenty-ten is coming to an end I have been reflecting on the year and deciding what is important for twenty-eleven. Tonight I am trying to decide what mission work I would like to be a part of this coming year. Ministry, medical, construction, education? Africa, Mexico, Romania, Haiti? I am sure which ever I choose will be a wonderful and fulfilling experience.
This is my absolute favorite Christmas song. It never fails to bring tears to my eyes the first time I hear it every season. Enjoy!
"I am not sure how or if I can fully recover from this but I know the genuine smile he has brought to my face is the first step."

I know five others agree with me.
Hiphop Nation is going to be the end of my good driving record. Officer Bad-ass already let me off a $400 ticket and I doubt I will be that lucky again. ;)
